187: You Gotta Have Hope (and Help)

Positive thinking and planning to achieve what might be the wrong aims or outcomes, can lead to problems - for self and for others. HOPE offers the contemplative-in-action a route that trumps both over-optimism or over-despair.

Positive thinking and planning to achieve what might be the wrong aims or outcomes, can lead to problems - for self and for others. HOPE offers the contemplative-in-action a route that trumps both over-optimism or over-despair.

After more than 3 years of delay and interruption, our chapter on using story-bridging to close gaps between individuals, organisations, nations is nearing publication. We see its methodology and approach as being an important contribution to countering the falsehoods, division, polarisation, conflict and despair present in our world - exacerbated by the way in which politicians, big business and those wanting a ‘new world order’ have u-turned participative democracy and instead drive totalitarian agendas.
A comprehensive enlargement of the chapter (5 times more content) is being considered for publication by Books33, with whom I have been involved for a year or more. They share the values and hopefulness of the co-authors.

An outline of my contribution as a presenter at this May 2022 online conference (on leveraging the social form of small-group circles, using sound facilitation principles), and the full storify-your-culture programme, may be accessed here:

Nnaumrata Arora Singh who guested our last newsletter (giving great insights about diversity – equity – inclusion - belonging) founded a podcast series on building resilience in families. Check it out here:

Whatever future scenario is developed for South Africa, one that will be among the candidates for the most likely is “ANC Implosion and Anarchy”. (A realistic assessment and one that engenders a fair amount of despair, given the observed path and known ideology followed by the current government, and exacerbated by their adherence to WHO and new world order agendas and the imposition of totalitarianism, whatever it takes. Any replacement government is not going to be able, nor necessarily willing, to reverse the course that we are on).
While continuing to hope for a non-violent outcome we should simultaneously do our best to prepare for personal survival during extremely hard times and a climate of hatred and violence that is on the horizon.
Transcending physical and logistical preparation are preparing to be calm, agile, proactive and compassionate in the time to come.

For years after launching the Halo and the Noose my practice was to issue a monthly newsletter. In recent times, specifically since the advent of the ‘coronavirus’ and intense, challenging times I have opted to send out newsletters as and when prompted – either by demand, or in response to a societal happening and need, or when my intuition tells me to do so. This will probably continue to be the case unless we again arrive at ‘normal, stable times’.

I intend to read Stories of Hope by Heather Morris (Bonnier Publishing Fiction, 2020)
Other inspirational stories abound. Search for them. Here are a couple to get you started: A Story of Hope: , Real Life Stories of Hope: Arnel:
